Why is an experienced counsellor this affordable?
No catch. My practice is in Johannesburg, where R750 is a solid professional fee. When you join me online from London or Dublin, you're simply paying a South African fee in your own currency. The hour is the same hour; the 40+ years are the same 40+ years. If you'd like the longer answer, I've written about affordable online counselling honestly.
If family join a session
Where it helps — and where you want it — I work with the people closest to you: a husband or wife, a son or daughter, sometimes a sister. This matters particularly for clients in their later years, where decisions are rarely made alone. If family members join a session, the cost does not change. It is the same session at the same fee, however many chairs are in the room.
The first call is free
Before anything else, we talk — fifteen to twenty minutes, free, no obligation. You tell me a little about what brings you; I tell you honestly whether and how I can help. If I'm not the right person, I'll say so and, where I can, point you to someone who is.
Please note: I don't take on clients based in the United States.
Questions people ask about fees
Does medical aid cover counselling with a social worker?
Often, yes — registered social workers in private practice have a practice number, and many South African medical aid plans pay for counselling sessions from savings or day-to-day benefits. It depends on your plan, not on me. After each session I'll give you a proper receipt with all the codes you need to claim. If you want certainty before we start, phone your scheme and ask whether your plan covers "social worker in private practice, practice number 038 2795".
Which medical aids do your clients claim from?
Plans on Bonitas, Discovery Health, Fedhealth, GEMS and Momentum often include benefits for sessions with a registered social worker. Cover differs between plans within the same scheme, so do check yours.
How does the sliding scale work?
If R750 is genuinely out of reach, tell me — we'll agree a fee that respects both your circumstances and the work. This conversation is ordinary and unembarrassing; money should not be the reason you don't get help.
How do international payments work?
By bank transfer, in pounds, euros or rands — whichever is simplest from your side. If a transfer is awkward from your country, we'll find a simple alternative. I don't take on clients based in the United States.
Is the introductory call really free?
Yes — fifteen to twenty minutes, no charge and no obligation. It exists so that you can hear my voice, ask questions, and decide in your own time whether I'm the right person.
Ready when you are
Book the free introductory call, or send a WhatsApp — whichever feels easier today.
